The board of the Nipissing District Developmental Screen (NDDS) is proud to inform the public about their program’s success.

In cooperation with the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, the Government of Ontario is making the Nipissing District Developmental ScreensTM more widely accessible to Ontario residents.

Through the NDDS website at www.ndds.ca Nipissing District Developmental Screens will be available to all Ontario residents free of charge either by email in a Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) or by using the NDDS Interactive Screen, an on-line, multimedia version of the tool.

Colour coded original screens may still be purchased online by non-Ontario residents at www.ndds.ca or by faxing or mailing an order form to NDDS, Box 1493, North Bay, ON P1B 8K6. Ontario residents may purchase the original colour coded screens if they wish.

Historical Information

The program was initiated in 1993, when the Nipissing District Infant Development Program became concerned with children exhibiting developmental delays were not being identifi ed quickly enough.

As a result, a committee of local speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, nurses, teachers, social workers and parent-infant therapists was formed to reverse the trend. Their solution was to create the Nipissing District Developmental Screen.

The NDDS is an easy-to-use checklist of yes or no questions and is a simple, but thorough, way to gauge a child’s early development.

It has now grown to be the most widely used Canadian screening tool available, with a high demand in the US as well. The NDDS can now be purchased online, and is available in English, French, Spanish, Chinese and Vietnamese. Age appropriate activities which are designed to promote overall development accompany the Screens.
